Since 1986, HABA has been providing excellent friendly service to the Great Barrier Reef. HABA started out as Coral Sea Diving Services in 1986. The company was owned by a group of businessmen including Greg Chapel (The Sanctuary Cove developers). In August 1989, the company was sold to a Japanese cosmetics company called HABA. The acronym stood for "Health And Beauty Aid". They also owned the Port Douglas Pandanus Caravan Park and the adjacent Restaurant Zai. By 1992 the Duff family bought the company & changed the name to Port Douglas Dive and Tours. With a firm reputation as a professional and friendly organisation the decision was made to continue trading as Haba Dive. On the 1st of July 1998 the company changed hands once more and was bought by the current owners and locals, Bruce Funch and Josann Reynolds. Over the years Haba Dive is a product that has hosted many famous names and faces including Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall, Jerry Seinfeld, Sean Penn, Glenn Close, Nick Nolte, John Cusack, Harry Connick Jr, Fiona Horne and Kimberly Davies to name a few. So you could be rubbing shoulders with your favorite super star while you enjoy a trip to the reef. During the Sydney Olympic Games Haba Dive hosted athletes from all corners of the globe. Some of these included members of the English and German swimming teams, Canadian rowing team, Brazilian judo team, American track and field team, Italian cycling team, and of course gold medal winning Aussie Beach Volleyball player Natalie Cook. Apart from offering the most exciting, memorable and professional day on the Great Barrier Reef, we also have a lot of fun. We enjoy what we do which is why we can guarantee our passengers return fully satisfied Our vessel Evolution is a new large fast custom built “Wavepiercer” catamaran, designed to cruise comfortably at high speeds while literally slicing through waves – making it the ideal vessel in all weather conditions. The luxurious interior features a state-of-the-art audio visual system and reef cinema as well as a fully licensed bar and comfortable table seating for all passengers. Once at the reef itself, our multiple award winning crew truly get their chance to shine – offering an array of in-water activities including diving (introductory and certified), snorkeling and guided tours. We are also proud to be the only vessel of our size to carry a glass-bottom boat onboard and offer 30 minute tours with one of our fully qualified Marine Biologists as your guide. The team at HABA like to maximize your time in the water and are unique in our decision to offer a “two site day”. This ensures not only a more relaxed atmosphere throughout the trip – but also the opportunity for each passenger to spend up to five hours in the water at stunning Agincourt, Opal and St Crispin’s Reefs. At HABA, we also understand the importance of preserving the unique wonderland that is the Great Barrier Reef. We are a Certified Eco Tourism member and work closely with marine researchers, conservation and environmental protection agencies. Proudly 100% locally owned and operated, HABA is quite simply the best way to enjoy the Great Barrier Reef. It’s serious fun.
