Divers Down

Divers Down The Pier High Street, Swanage BH19 2BW, Dorset, South West, GREAT BRITAIN

Swanage, on the South Coast in Dorset, has much to offer, with its rolling green hills to one side of the Bay and Peveril Point to the other. But undoubtedly the main attraction for divers is Divers Down, Britain’s oldest dive school. Swanage has always been a popular dive site for all standards of diver and in 2008 Divers Down will celebrate its 50th Anniversary. Nestling nicely on the pier to the South of the town, Divers Down has an ideal location, with the underwater world of wonder lying directly beneath it attracted by the confines of the wooden pier framework. A variety of other dives including many wrecks lie in deeper water outside the bay.

DIVE SITES:

The Kyarra

The Kyarra is Dorsets' most popular wreck. Laying at a depth of 30m with the top at 18m and 3/4 mile off Anvil Point. This was a large vessel torpedoed by a German submarine. Much of the cargo is still being found including gold watches, perfume bottles, champagne, knives & forks and much more.

Aeolian Skye

The Aeolian Sky is 5 miles off St Aldhelms Head and takes us about 35/40 minutes to get there from Swanage. Although the wreck was cleared by explosives down to 18m her holds are still stuffed with cargo. The total depth to the seabed on this dive is 30m.

Fleur De Lys

This is a 60' trawler lying in just 13m of water. There is hardly any tide around this wreck and with this depth and usually good visibility, it makes this the perfect traing or first dive of the season.
